A towering figure in Jamaican gospel music, Shirley Willis rose to fame as the powerful, soul-stirring lead vocalist of The Grace Thrillers,one of the most celebrated gospel groups in the Caribbean. Her voice, filled with conviction and warmth, became the sound of spiritual awakening for generations, with hits like “Can’t Even Walk (Without You Holding My Hand),” “Jesus Is the Answer,” and “Oh What a Sunrise.”
A native of St. Ann, Jamaica, Shirley joined the Grace Thrillers in the 1970s, helping to catapult the group to international acclaim. Under her lead, the group toured globally—from the Caribbean to North America, the UK, and beyond bringing messages of faith and hope to millions. Her style blended traditional gospel with Caribbean rhythms, delivering a uniquely Jamaican praise experience.
In 2019, she was crowned an Honored Queen at QORIHC (Queens of Reggae Island Honorary Ceremony), a prestigious tribute recognizing Jamaican women who have made indelible marks on the creative and cultural landscape.
