Meet the Honouree

Judy Mowatt

“Her voice carried the message. Her spirit carried the movement.”

Biography

A true matriarch of reggae music, Judy Mowatt has spent decades shaping the sound and soul of Jamaican music. First rising to prominence as one-third of The I-Threes, Bob Marley’s legendary backing vocalists, her voice became an essential thread in the global rise of roots reggae.

Beyond her work with Marley, Judy carved her own legacy as a solo artist, becoming the first female singer nominated for a Grammy in the Reggae category with her landmark album “Working Wonders.” A powerful voice for women, spirituality, and African consciousness, her music resonates with deep purpose and divine strength.

At QORIHC 2019, we honored Judy not only for her trailblazing contributions but for her role as a cultural mother—uplifting, empowering, and uniting generations through song.
